After conducting user interviews, laying out an affinity diagram, building empathy maps, personas, and user journey maps, the research provided a clear view of key user needs.
Several insights emerged. The first, was that many users wished to know more about the artist whose tutorial they were viewing. This insight was shared by multiple users - both novice and experienced alike.
The second insight involved a desire to have the option to move through a tutorial without having to touch the user's device (on which the tutorial was playing). This was a user need for those with limited mobility, and for those who work in messier art mediums.
A third insight revealed that users wished to easily search for tutorials within the same art medium, and then within sub-categories of that medium. All users expressed some kind of desire to be able to categorize tutorials more succinctly.
The final main insight illuminated the user's need to be able to quickly and easily find tutorials they have previously viewed and enjoyed. Once again, this user need was expressed by most participants (both novice and experienced artists).
These key insights guided the design decisions for the website.
